Quick answers
Quick answers for importing, playback, exports, privacy, and purchases in Offbeat.
How do I import music?
Use Offbeat's import flow from Files or supported document pickers. Imported items are copied into the app's local storage so they stay available to your library even after the original picker session ends.
What file types are supported?
Current import and scan flows recognize common audio formats including MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, and OGG. Some video-capable flows also recognize MP4 and M4V where the app supports video playback or media import.
Where does Offbeat keep my imported music?
Imported files are stored inside Offbeat's local app storage so the app can manage playback, metadata, waveforms, lyrics, and related library features. This is part of the app's on-device library model.
Can I import videos too?
Yes, parts of the app support video-capable media flows. The codebase currently recognizes formats such as MP4 and M4V in video-related import and playback paths.
Does Offbeat provide lyrics?
Offbeat does not host or license lyrics. You can create, paste, or import your own content, or optionally search LRCLIB (a community database) from the player when a song has no lyrics. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use any lyrics you add or download.
Why might lyrics not appear?
Lyrics must be added by you or downloaded via optional LRCLIB Search. Offbeat supports local lyrics workflows, including LRC-based lyrics, but embedded MP3 lyric import is not fully implemented in the current build.
Which lyric formats work best?
LRC-based lyrics work best for timed playback. Offbeat also supports plain text lyric workflows, but timed display depends on timed lyrics being available for that track.
Can I export lyrics from Offbeat?
Yes. Offbeat includes lyric export flows that stage files temporarily and then hand them off through system export or sharing flows. The exact final destination depends on where you save or share the exported file.
How do I open Effects?
From Home, tap Effects in Quick Access. You can also open the full-screen player and swipe through the bottom action buttons until you reach the effects page with Equalizer, Reverb, Bass Boost, 3D Audio, Transpose, and Speed.
Do I need a song playing to use effects?
Effects work best with a selected or currently playing track. If no track is active, tap the song row in Effects to choose a track and preview changes.
Do visualizers affect battery life?
They can. Visualizers and some playback effects use more processing than standard playback. Saver mode reduces power use and can disable parts of the visualizer/effects experience.
Why are some effects or visualizers unavailable?
Performance mode can limit playback features to reduce battery or processing cost. Open Settings → Performance & Battery to check your mode. Saver mode disables effects, while Balanced or Maximum enables the full effects engine.
What is the waveform setting used for?
Waveforms are used to give playback surfaces more visual timing detail and scrubbing feedback. Offbeat can generate waveform data in the background for imported tracks and also provides waveform maintenance controls in Settings.
Where do exported files go?
Exports are prepared in temporary storage first, then handed off through the Files picker, share sheet, or export flow you choose. The final save location depends on where you send the file.
Does Offbeat save trimmed tracks or recordings?
Yes. The app includes dedicated recording and trimming flows, and those outputs can be stored back into Offbeat so they appear in the relevant library surfaces.
Can I share music or other content from Offbeat?
Yes. The app includes share and export flows for supported content, including music-library exports and lyric exports. Shared files are prepared locally first, then passed to the destination you choose.
Is my music uploaded anywhere?
Your local library stays on device. Imported music is kept locally unless you explicitly share or export it. Optional analytics and crash reporting are separate from your library content.
Does Offbeat collect analytics?
Offbeat may include analytics and crash-reporting controls in Settings, and those controls are separate from your personal library content. Privacy details are documented in the Privacy Policy.
How do subscriptions affect features?
Some features are gated by subscription tier. The codebase includes Free, Plus, and Premium access levels, and the paywall and entitlement flows use StoreKit to decide which features are unlocked.
Why is playback or effect processing behaving unexpectedly?
Performance mode, unavailable source files, or format-specific limitations can affect playback and effects. If something seems off, review Settings → Performance & Battery and confirm the underlying media file is still available.
Why can't Offbeat find a file I imported before?
If the underlying media file is no longer available, moved outside the app's managed storage, or failed during import, playback-related features may not work as expected. Re-importing the original file is usually the safest fix.
How do I restore purchases?
Open your subscription or paywall flow and choose Restore purchases. Offbeat uses StoreKit restore through the App Store to refresh your entitlements.
What should I contact support about?
Use support for help with imports, playback issues, exports, subscriptions, restore flows, and other app behavior. Use the privacy contact for questions about privacy, analytics settings, or data-handling requests.
